EAT YOURSELF HEALTHY

WHAT IS NUTRITION?

“A healthy outside starts from the inside.” Robert Ulrich

Nutrition is a huge part of everyone’s life whether they realise it or not. The phrase “you are what you eat” has never been so relevant, yet the book came out over 15 years ago.

Nutrition is the science of what we eat and drink. The ‘sciency’ bit being, how does what we eat and drink affect our bodies. It can help us answer questions about which foods are good for us and which are bad.

Nutrition involves Carbohydrates, Proteins, Fats, Vitamins, Minerals, Antioxidants, Phytonutrients and more.

I believe nutrition and food has the power to help you heal and make you feel amazing. However it also has the ability to make us sick and unhealthy. Nutrition can help reduce inflammation, boost our immune responses and allow us to heal quicker but only when we do it right.

Even with the healthiest diet, we cannot always consume everything we require, therefore supplementation is sometimes required to reach optimum health.

We will take you through the basics and give you the knowledge to make better and more informed decisions about what you eat, when you eat and how often is right for you.

We will follow your specific 3 step plan which will guide us through each section. By addressing each step we can plug nutritional deficiencies and promote an anti-inflammatory environment for your boy to heal.

Hitting our nutrition targets and ultimately our nutritional goal will speed up healing, reduce our susceptibility to illness and reduce the pain and inflammation that drives disease.

FAKE EVIDENCE ABOUT NUTRITION

There is no evidence that SATURATED FAT produces harmful effects in humans.
>>> In contrast “healthy” fats are clearly beneficial

There is no evidence the HIGH CARBOHYDRATE diets are healthy.
>>> The rise in DIABETES AND OBESITY follows the promotion of the 1977 US dietary guidelines

There is no evidence that CEREAL AND GRAINS make us healthier
>>>(Kelly SAM et al. Cochrane Aug 24th 2017)

There is no evidence that eating a LOW SALT DIET is healthy.
>>> In fact it may increase levels of insulin resistance and promote sugar craving.

There is no evidence that eating 5 SERVINGS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES a day is healthy.
>>> So much fruit would be detrimental to those with insulin resistance / Type 2 diabetes mellitus

FOOD INTOLERANCE

FOOD INTOLERANCE

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” Hippocrates

A food intolerance is the mild/moderate reaction of the body to a certain food or drink. The reaction causes systemic (bodywide) inflammation as your body’s immune system attempts to fight the unwanted substance. Specifically, it is the IgG antibodies which react and cause the symptoms to occur.

Very similar to an allergy, this reaction can cause a wide range of harmful symptoms.

The allergy causes an allergic reaction and happens pretty quickly and can be fatal, think nuts.

An intolerance happens over the course of several hours to a day or two and the reaction can be anything from headaches to stomach problems and is inconvenient, think beans, pasta or bread.

The picture below illustrates some simple differences.

It is as simple as a drop of blood.

With your blood, and completed paperwork, the lab can use this small sample to test against it’s 100’s of food and drink samples. The blood is added to a test sample and an indicator, this indicator changes colour in response to a reaction. This colour change is then measured to give a numerical value to show how reactive it was to your immune system. The data is collated and sent back in a traffic light system making it easy to interpret.

Once we have the results we can interpret them and look to remove harmful food/drink from the diet

THE RESULTS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES

An independent customer survey conducted by the University of York 2007, carried out on 5,286 people
the results were then divided into patient groups and the results are summarised below.

INTOLERANCE VS ALLERGY

Medical condition reported

% of people reporting moderate to high benefit

Gastro Intestinal e.g. IBS, Bloating etc

80%

Respiratory e.g. Asthma, Breathing Difficulties, Rhinitis

72%

Neurological e.g. Migrane, Headaches

78%

Dermatological e.g. Eczemaa , Acne, Psoriasis

76%

Musculo-Skeletal e.g. Arthritis, Rheumatism

64%

Psychological e.g. Depression, ADHD, Panic Attacks

81%

Others e.g. Lethargy, General Feeling of Malaise

79%

Often thought to be variations of the same thing, food allergies and intolerances are in fact very different

FOOD INTOLERANCE

% of population affected

Can trigger a food-specific igG antibody response

Symptoms can take up to 72 hours to appear

Symptoms can be troublesome but not life threatening

FOOD ALLERGY

% of population affected

Triggers a food-specific igG antibody reaction

Symptoms usually appear within 2 hours of exposure

Can be very severe may lead the body to have an anaphylactic response which is potentially lethal

THREE STEP PROCESS

DIAGNOSE - EDUCATE - IMPLEMENT

An accurate diagnosis is always the first logical step, closely followed by a goal to work towards. We need to know the whole picture before we can make any recommendations so we start with a food intolerance test, a food diary and 7 blood markers.

EXPLORE:

Intolerances testing
Food diary
Blood markers

RESULTS:
  • Intolerance profile
  • Nutritional profile
  • Blood Profile

Once we have identified the issue, we can then start to formulate a plan. We’ll explore Fasting Protocols, Supplementation and go through your profiles to know what you need not just what you want.

Education and knowing why we’re implementing each part is the backbone of the plan. It’s the WHY that keeps us honest and adds accountability. It’ll help make the plan stick and keep you from straying off the path.

EXPLORE:

What is nutrition and how does it affect us?

RESULTS:
  • The right nutritional lifestyle
  • Why it’s right for you

The final step. We know what you’re intolerant too and what you currently eat. We now know why intolerances are important, what nutritional lifestyle is right for you and what supplementation is needed to get the best from your new plan.

So let’s start to implement the plan in manageable and achievable steps. At regular intervals, we will conduct check-ups and repeat the blood markers to gauge your improvement.
