“The preservation of health is easier than the cure of disease” B.J Palmer
It is the prescription of exercise to produce desired outcomes.
It’s the last of our unique 3 step process. We start to move away from passive care and give you the ability to control and manage your care. it is the key to keeping everything at bay. Rehab requires discipline to keep to the exercise plan and drive to achieve peak performance.
The primary goal of rehab is to reduce the risk of re-injury.
We’ve just spent a number of weeks of time and effort to get you through step one and two of the process and to a place where everything is starting to feel good. Why would we then do 70% of the work and not bother to do the last 30%?
It’s the last 30% that is the key to stopping it coming back. It forms the backbone of a regime you can easily stick to after finishing treatment, keeping you strong and capable to do what you want, when you want.
3 steps to the process, 3 different intensities and 3 completely different goals.
At each stage there is a minimum requirement you need to achieve before moving onto the next phase. These can be a mix of time, repetition and movement quality goals.
Phase one will involve simple exercises that will take a minute or two to complete moving through to phase three involving complex whole-body exercises that take 10-15 minutes to complete.
MOVEMENT THERAPY
FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT SCREEN
“First move well, then move often” Gray Cook
It is a series of up to 10 physical tests performed in sequence. The tests are broken down into 4 sections, with each section looking at a different aspect of movement. The sections move through simple movements to complex incorporating range of motion, stability, quality and control.
It is a great way of examining baseline movement.
The FMS sets a baseline for movement quality
It forms part of phase two of the rehab process and also the prerequisite for starting phase three. Achieving a minimum movement baseline shows that core movements are compensation free and can reduce the risk of injury when moving on to more complex weighted movements.
The FMS allows us to achieve movement competency via the Core Principles. We Protect movements that are compromised, Correct the dysfunction and Develop using different loads and positions
CHIROPRACTIC
3 STEP PROCESS
FLEXIBILITY - COORDINATION - CAPACITY
Our aim is to restore the full range of motion to your joints and tissues. We want to expand on the current range / comfort zone by working with the soft tissues and muscles around the joints.
The increased movement and reduction of stiffness will make movements start to feel more fluid and natural again.
Increasing the range of motion will help to reduce the risk of injury.
METHODS:
Stretching Mobility drills
GOALS:
Increase Flexibility
Decrease Stiffness
Increase Function
This step involves starting with the basics and laying down a foundation of stability from which to build on.
It has been well documented that certain injuries change the coordination and activation of certain muscles. Therefore, starting from the ground up assures that we don’t miss a thing.
We will use the FMS and other screening methods to provide us with a movement baseline so we can work towards obtaining a set movement quality.
METHODS:
Corrective Exercise Stability Work
GOALS:
Better Foundations
Better Coordination
Better Movement Patterns
Once we can move well, with stability, through a full range, we can start to add capacity.
The short term goal here is to make sure your capacity exceeds your needs, giving us a buffer, decreasing the risk of injury.
The long term goal is to find and maintain a plan which can you can continue to use to keep you doing what you want, when you want with the knowledge that you have a solid foundation beneath you.
METHODS:
Compound movements Increased Load
GOALS:
Work capacity exceeds load

SUPERHUMAN CHIROPRACTIC ABILITIES
“Tom has helped me with injuries so many times and, despite my lack of notice, always responds and makes time for me so fast.
Most recently, I tweaked my lower back in the squat rack and after 3 days of self rehab it just wasn’t getting better. I called Tom in the morning and he was at my house that same afternoon. He spent close to an hour working on me and I noticed a vast improvement straight afterwards. Wish I had called him a couple of days earlier!
Other than Tom’s superhuman chiropractic abilities and professional etiquette, he is just a nice guy and so easy to talk to.
He is my go-to chiropractor in the Merthyr, Caerphilly and Gwent areas. “
