“Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional” Old Buddhist saying
Shockwave Therapy is a hugely effective, non-invasive, evidence-based treatment method.
It’s safe for all people 18 and over, and for minors with Osgood Schlatter’s. It is primarily for people who have been suffering from tendon, ligament and other soft tissue injuries as well as people with osteoarthritis. However, research papers are constantly being published with new evidence of potential treatments.
With the exception of a small list of contraindications, it is safe for the vast majority of people.
With a success rate of over 80% in as little as 4 treatments, it’s easy to see why it is becoming so popular within the clinic.
It’s ability to almost instantaneously change pain levels and give back comfort is second to none. The treatment itself isn’t comfortable however well worth it. For people suffering from Plantar Fascitis, Achilles Tendinitis, Golfers Elbow, it is by far the most effective form of treatment when paired with rehabilitation. And amazingly, people who have been suffering for the longest tend to get the best results!!
The EMS Swiss Dolorclast machine has been used in 66% of all Clinical trials (RCT) on the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) showing a better clinical outcome than the control in 80% of the studies.

THREE STEP PLAN
DIAGNOSE - TREATMENT - REHAB
To accurately and effectively treat the issue, we need to confirm the diagnosis. If a tendon is involved we need to be specific in where it is located within the tendon. In a small number of cases, we may need to refer you for an ultrasound scan. If it is something we are able to treat then we will go through the contraindications to make sure you are suitable.
The vast majority will continue to treatment.
Diagnose the Issue
- Is it suitable for treatment?
- Do we need a referral/scan?
The standard procedure for most will be weekly shockwave sessions over six weeks followed by a twelve week rest and rehab period.
During the six week treatment phase, additional stretching and loading will be given to speed up the process and get the most out of the shockwave therapy.
Reduce the pain
Start stretching, Increase loading
- Normal use of the area
- Started phase one of Rehab
Phase one is complete.
Phases two and three build up in intensity and diversity as we incorporate more than just the tendon and attached muscles. We want strength, stability and capacity and we want it in multiple directions with differing loads.
Achieving this will allow you to perform better and start to return to sport.
Increase load tolerance
Increase strength and stability
- Phased Return to Sport / Activities

WHAT CAN I SAY BUT OMG!!
“I saw Tom for the first time on Monday for ongoing back problems, today was my second session and I have just finished my 1st session of shockwave therapy….well what can I say but OMG!!
